Andrews install air conditioning for prestigious Scottish college

Andrews Air Conditioning was recently contacted by the facilities department of one of the most prestigious colleges in Scotland, who sought an effective climate control solution for two administration offices.

During the summer season, staff were struggling to stay cool and were having to spend the majority of their day in uncomfortable working conditions. A permanent cooling arrangement was therefore urgently required to keep a sizeable working space cool.

EU announce F-Gas Regulation update

In order to control emissions from fluorinated greenhouse gases, the European Union has implemented two legislative measures. The second of these – the “F-gas Regulation” – covers all key applications and strengthens existing guidelines originally adopted in 2006.

Controls on the use and emissions of fluorinated gases are now more stringent than any time previously and these now also affect the use of HFCs as refrigerants. The 2014 EU F-Gas Regulation has now replaced the 2006 version, strengthening all earlier requirements whilst also introducing a number of important new practice codes. read more

Q & A: Which Air Conditioning System is Right for Me?

Of course, this depends on context and many other factors, but some general ‘good ideas’ apply.

Compact air conditioning installations, suitable for small commercial buildings, generally use single split designs, which comprise an outdoor compressor unit and an indoor fancoil unit.

The outdoor unit houses the cooling fan, compressor and the condenser heat exchanger, while the indoor unit houses the evaporator. The indoor and outdoor units are connected by pipework, through which a refrigerant (coolant) liquid or gas flows, to cool the indoor air. read more

Q & A – My air conditioning came with a manufacturer’s warranty so why do I need a maintenance contract?

Manufacturers’ warranties are always dependent upon the equipment having been used in accordance with their recommendations and having been maintained according to their specifications. It is similar to a car manufacturer’s requirements that a user ensures routine servicing is carried out during any warranty period. A Planned Maintenance Contract from a manufacturer-accredited service provider ensures manufacturer’s warranties remain valid and can often be extended to cover several years.
