Common Problems

WATER LEAKAGE

Leaking water is one the most frequent issues encountered by our customers, and something we are asked to repair on a regular basis. Whether a condensate pump has broken down or the unit itself simply has not been maintained properly, there are a variety of factors that may cause a leakage. Repairs of this nature are generally completed within sixty minutes of an engineer arriving on site, underlining the simplicity with which we can carry them out. LOSS OF PERFORMANCE

When an air conditioning unit is not operating at the expected levels, the reduction in performance can often be attributed to the product not being serviced frequently enough. On the other hand, a refrigerant leak or similarly serious issue may be the reason. Regularly cleaning and preventing the unit from getting dirty can, in many cases, resolve this issue. In the case of leaking, though, a more detailed survey is required to ensure a fault is correctly diagnosed. At Andrews, we can quote our customers for any additional works to prevent you from receiving an invoice unexpectedly.

PRONE TO FREEZING

In order to guarantee a swift an effective resolution, it is vitally important that an engineer visits your site if you notice water dripping on the floor or the unit itself begins to freeze up. Our trained experts will ascertain whether or not the unit requires a deep clean or some other course of action. A dirty unit cannot ‘breathe’ properly as it prevents the cool air from escaping the room – causing it to eventually freeze. Similarly, when a system has a leak, it’s just a matter of time before the unit needs replacing. If you notice a problem, act quickly, and call us!

STALE ODOURS

Air conditioning units give off condensate water which runs inside the units themselves – before being discharged from the system. This fluid, combined with fluctuating temperatures, can cause the build-up of bacteria on the unit’s coils. However, this is entirely preventable by ensuring your air conditioner is serviced frequently – using suitable chemicals to remove odours and enhance efficiency.

INCREASED ENERGY BILLS

In order for an air conditioning system to function at full capacity, it is necessary for the unit to breathe freely. Should it get clogged with contaminants, the unit will need to operate under increased strain in order to achieve the same level of heating or cooling. This also means it will require a greater amount of electricity just to maintain expected performance levels. Having your unit regularly checked by a service engineer will guarantee energy consumption remains low while the likelihood of largescale repairs being needed is greatly reduced.

GAS LEAK

All Andrews air conditioning units come pre-charged with refrigerant gas, circumventing the need for them to require a top-up unless a leak has unexpectedly occurred. However, in the unlikely event the system does need to be decommissioned, our specialist engineers are equipped to repair gas leaks without external assistance. Equipment deployed in critical areas – like data centres, for example – may need to be replaced by temporary air conditioning systems when being repaired to ensure said application remains online at all times.

NOT HEATING

Although it sounds obvious, you should check that the controller is configured on heating mode before arriving at the conclusion that this setting has malfunctioned! If the unit is neither cooling nor heating, the likelihood is that it does not have a sufficient amount of refrigerant gas because a leak may have occurred. Infrared remote controls also naturally require battery replacements every so often to ensure there is enough power to send signals to the receiving hardware.
