EU announce F-Gas Regulation update

In order to control emissions from fluorinated greenhouse gases, the European Union has implemented two legislative measures. The second of these – the “F-gas Regulation” – covers all key applications and strengthens existing guidelines originally adopted in 2006.

Controls on the use and emissions of fluorinated gases are now more stringent than any time previously and these now also affect the use of HFCs as refrigerants. The 2014 EU F-Gas Regulation has now replaced the 2006 version, strengthening all earlier requirements whilst also introducing a number of important new practice codes. read more

NHS unveil Andrews Sykes Group as European-approved service provider

Andrews Sykes Group are delighted to announce successfully securing a place on the London Procurement Partnership NHS framework, having regularly provided climate control services to hospitals and clinics up and down the country prior to confirmation. This development has been ratified by the Official Journal of the European Union and allows the NHS and other public sector organisations to use our equipment as a pre-approved supplier.

LPP is an NHS-founded membership body which strives to work alongside associates to support the organisation and maximise its purchasing power. This then enables the NHS to continue offering high quality services and to reshape and improve the health care available to those who need it. read more

AAC&R assist the UK’s most prestigious delivery service

While the company’s main mantra is to provide clients across a full range of sectors with fixed air conditioning systems, we also periodically handle heating and ventilation projects for those who may or have required cooling on other occasions.

So when a complete refurbishment of a Royal Mail sorting office rendered a replacement of aged climate control systems necessary, we were tasked with overseeing the installation and ensuring vital amenities were back online before the building was recommissioned for use. read more

Kent-based office facilities have new VRV system installed

The modern office is becoming increasingly reliant on electrical technology as companies aim to maximise productivity via the various forms of hardware available. This fact alone causes the working environment to rise slightly in temperature, but combine it with a prolonged period of hot weather and conditions can quickly become unbearable.

Fortunately, one of our major clients in the South East sought to have an air conditioning issue rectified before the summer heat could affect their operations and staff. An ageing VRV cooling system had failed, leaving the entire premises without suitable cooling and at risk of causing employees to feel uncomfortable. read more

Retail outlet undergoes TM44 Energy Efficiency Inspection

As part of revised legislation aimed at monitoring the efficiency of air conditioning systems over 12kW, independent inspections must be carried out every five years. These inspections often highlight money saving opportunities as well as help companies reduce their CO2 emissions.

At Andrews Air Conditioning, we are responsible for maintaining the systems of our clients and recently identified that one of them – a ceramics retail outlet – required an Energy Efficiency Inspection. This was to ensure the systems across their fifteen stores were still suitable for the intended purpose and operating correctly. read more

Why working in uncomfortable temperatures can hurt your bottom line

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the authority on workplace health and safety in the UK has indicated in the past that “an acceptable zone of thermal comfort for most people in the UK lies roughly between 13°C (56°F) and 30°C (86°F).”  Today, the HSE states that “during work hours, the temperature in all workplaces inside buildings shall be reasonable.”

Not only is it important for employers to ensure that employees are comfortable in the workplace, numerous studies have revealed that employee productivity has increased at cool, well air-conditioned workplaces.  A satisfactory comfort zone for employees can be achieved by maintaining temperatures of air-conditioning systems at 21°C–23°C.  By doing this, employee productivity has improved during morning, afternoon, and evening periods by 18%, 1% to 15%, and 7% respectively.  Arguably, statistics such as these indicate that worker productivity can be severely affected during hot, afternoon sessions where an office is not fully air-conditioned. read more

Andrews Air Conditioning & Refrigeration cool NHS patient

As part of the NHS’s plan to manage patients with complex needs, team meetings are held and attended by all parties involved in the care itself. This allows GPs, nurses, specialists and parents to discuss requirements and make plans to accommodate these in the future.

The consultations were used as an opportunity to discuss the situation of one particular patient in Wolverhampton, whose disrupted sleeping pattern had become increasingly detrimental. It was identified that he had taken to sleeping on the sofa every night because the constant use of an oxygen concentrator upstairs had generated a considerable amount of heat. read more

Major London train station assisted by Andrews Air Conditioning

A world-famous train station in central London required a replacement air conditioning system for its Switch Rooms, with previous equipment adjudged to have been beyond repair. The busy nature of train stations – particularly in the capital – meant that the need to minimise disruption to both passengers’ journeys and employees was of paramount importance.

Andrews Air Conditioning was tasked with providing a solution to the problem without compromising the site’s daily operations in any way. Eighteen SAMSUNG Under Ceiling Units were delivered and installed using a hybrid clamping system, and positioned so that maximum air flow could be achieved throughout each area. This has since resulted in a 35% increase in air flow efficiency – and at lower running costs. read more

Air Conditioning Installation donated to Glasgow hospice

Andrews Air Conditioning recently completed a complimentary installation at the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. The installation is a donation in memory of Alasdair McLean, whose long and successful career with the Andrews Sykes group spanned 33 years, latterly as National Installations Manager for Andrews Air Conditioning. The project involved the air conditioning of the Pharmacy Room at the hospice to ensure the safe storage and maximum shelf life of vital, temperature-sensitive medicines. The space presented particular problems due to its large area of glazing making it prone to significant daily and seasonal temperature changes. read more
