Sales Director takes on Highland Coast-to-Coast charity bike ride

While the Royal Wedding in 2011 meant that most of us enjoyed a prolonged Easter Bank Holiday, one Andrews Sykes employee instead opted to negotiate approximately 200 miles of off-road terrain on a mountain bike across some of the highest regions in England.

It took six days for Andy Whiteley to reach Robin Hood’s Bay on the Yorkshire coast, having initially begun his journey at St. Bees in Cumbria, crossing along the way The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors National Parks. read more

Birmingham bar upgrades fixed air conditioning system

When a bar in Birmingham suffered the complete breakdown of its ageing air conditioning system, it left the proprietor with a decision to make. Although repairing the existing equipment was initially discussed, it was eventually decided that it would be more cost-effective in the long term to install a replacement.

The new design was initially based on a two pipe heat pump system as recommended by the manufacturer. However further discussions with our specialist team led to some alternative proposals incorporating an improved, less obtrusive design. read more

Is Building Regulations Approval Required for New Air Conditioning?

The UK Planning System is generally administered by local government and provides guidance, plans and strategies to control what and where new development takes place.

As part of this, the Building Regulations are a set of nationally enforced minimum standards which control the quality and performance of all elements of new construction. The Building Regulations are comprehensive, covering a broad range of issues such as thermal insulation, electrical and gas safety and structural integrity.

Enforcement is by Local Authority Building Control Departments whose inspectors visit sites to ensure the building regulations are being adhered to and provide formal approval when satisfied that the required standards have been met. read more

Is Planning Permission Required for New Air Conditioning?

The UK Planning Permission System operates to ensure that building plans contribute to the delivery of sustainable development so that new homes, businesses, shops, offices and public buildings are built in such a way as to protect and improve the environment.

Typically, planning permission applications from businesses relate to the building of new premises, alterations or extensions to existing premises, or the change of use of premises. To extend shops or offices you will always need planning permission. If you are altering or extending a listed building or a building in a conservation area you may also require conservation area and listed building consent before you proceed. read more

When the owner of an innovative new 24-hour fitness studio in Kent was considering air conditioning providers he didn’t need to ponder for long. As an experienced electrical contractor he had worked with Andrews Air Conditioning in the past and, knowing our commitment to service and quality workmanship, was keen to do so again.
