Sales Director takes on Highland Coast-to-Coast charity bike ride

While the Royal Wedding in 2011 meant that most of us enjoyed a prolonged Easter Bank Holiday, one Andrews Sykes employee instead opted to negotiate approximately 200 miles of off-road terrain on a mountain bike across some of the highest regions in England.

It took six days for Andy Whiteley to reach Robin Hood’s Bay on the Yorkshire coast, having initially begun his journey at St. Bees in Cumbria, crossing along the way The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors National Parks.

Now Andy has set his sights on an even more gruelling challenge by traversing Scotland the hard way – over The Highlands.

On 1 July 2015, Andy and a companion will set off north of the border to scale 27,000 feet of climbs along the punishing 260-mile off-road route. Starting at Glenelg in the far West, the pair will pass Laggan, Tomintoul and Ballater before eventually finishing (hopefully!) at Stonehaven on the North Sea coast seven days later.

A sharp increase in temperature is expected to make their mission even more difficult, which seems ironic given that one of Andy’s professional roles as Andrews Sykes HVAC Sales Director is the hire and sale of air conditioning! Cooling assistance would doubtlessly be gladly accepted during the struggle but unfortunately, for once, this will not be available.

We all wish Andy and his companion the best of luck (as well as a rapid recovery) and to learn more about his coast-to-coast adventure please visit www.justgiving.com/Highland-CtoC/
