Andrews Additions

Your air conditioning is a major investment which you will want to keep in tip-top condition throughout its long life. Andrews Air Conditioning offers a wide range of energy saving equipment, anti-theft protection devices and innovative technical services all designed to save you hassle, time and money.

These product and service enhancements combine to produce an unrivalled offering which we call Andrews Additions.

R22 Scrappage Scheme
We are all familiar with scrappage schemes for old cars and boilers. But here’s something new - The Andrews Air Conditioning Scrappage Scheme.

Any air conditioning over 10 years old probably uses R22 refrigerant, an ozone-depleting CFC which is now banned. By law R22 systems will become unserviceable at the end of 2014 - spare parts are already in short supply and increasingly expensive.

The Andrews Air Conditioning Scrappage Scheme gives you a massive £150 scrappage allowance towards your new air conditioning for every R22 system we replace when you take out a Planned Maintenance Contract with us.  And all our new air conditioning is ozone-friendly, highly energy-efficient and comes with up to 5 years warranty.

Funding for this fabulous offer is strictly limited to pre-agreed installations, so don’t miss out.

Enhanced Capital Allowances
The government’s Enhanced Capital Allowances (ECA) Scheme allows 100% of the installation cost of new, energy-efficient air conditioning to be offset against your company’s taxable profits in the first year. This results in an effective reduction in the costs of your new air conditioning of 20% or more depending on the corporation tax rate applicable. This valuable incentive applies not only to the equipment costs but also to the costs of design, installation and commissioning. Any business can qualify for ECA regardless of size, sector or location and, what’s more, you can claim ECA in addition to the unique Andrews Air Conditioning Scrappage Scheme when you’re replacing old R22 equipment. For more information give us a call or visit www.eca.gov.uk

Replacement Technology
Replacing air conditioning can be a huge upheaval involving disruption and disturbance plus extended periods without your vital cooling or heating. There never seems to be a good time.

However with ‘Replacement Technology’ from Andrews Air Conditioning we can replace your air conditioning system without disturbing any of your delicate wall, floor or ceiling finishes. It’s faster, cleaner and far less disruptive because the original pipework stays in place.

And the best part is that it’s also more cost-effective. Call us to book your free site survey to discover if your installation is suitable for Replacement Technology.

Condenser Security Cages
The price of valuable metals such as copper has increased considerably in recent times. That has also increased the scrap value of anything containing copper, including your air conditioning.  Air conditioners and their associated pipework contain lots of copper, making them particularly vulnerable to thieves. If thieves do strike you’ll be left with the costs of replacing the equipment, the refrigerant and, most importantly, the disruption to your premises or business.

Andrews Air Conditioning offers a range of high-strength steel security cages which provide a physical barrier around your external condenser equipment. They can be fitted as part of a new installation or retro-fitted to existing systems and provide highly cost-effective protection against thieves and vandals.

Pipework Damage Protection
As with external condenser equipment, refrigerant pipework is commonly made of high-value copper and therefore provides an attractive target to thieves. Let Andrews Air Conditioning advise you about routing pipework at high level or out of sight. Where exposed pipework is unavoidable we are able to fit steel pipework protection covers which encase the vulnerable copper, making its theft a slow, laborious and unattractive proposition for even the most determined thief.

Low-Copper Pipework
Recent innovations in alloy technology have enabled the introduction of low-copper alloy pipework capable of withstanding the high refrigerant working pressures demanded by modern energy-efficient air conditioning systems. Such pipework is unattractive to thieves due to its minimal scrap value and can be fitted as part of a new installation or retrofitted to existing systems (subject to site survey).

Pipework Thermal Insulation
The efficiency of the heat energy transfer between the indoor and external units in your air conditioning will be very adversely affected by damaged or weathered pipework insulation. Pipework insulation can be damaged by vermin or degrade under exposure to sunlight and often goes unnoticed, progressively impairing the effectiveness of your heating and cooling.

Replacing aged or damaged thermal insulation is a quick, non-disruptive and highly cost-effective way to improve the performance and energy efficiency of your air conditioning.

Alarms
If damage to, or tampering with, your air conditioning risks major loss or disruption to your activities then an active anti-tamper alarm may be the ideal solution.

Such alarms can sense a power disconnection or sudden drop in refrigerant pressure and provide an audible alert similar to that in modern burglar alarms and/or an electronic message to a mobile phone or other hand-held device.

As with passive security systems such as condenser security cages and pipe work protection, active alarms can be installed as part of a new installation or, subject to the features required, retro-fitted to existing installations.

Passive Infra-Red Movement Sensors
Air conditioning is increasingly becoming an essential element of our modern lifestyles which can account for around 30% of a building’s energy use. As market leaders, our customers are increasingly asking us to advise them on how they can continue to obtain all the benefits of air conditioning whilst reducing their energy use and CO2 footprint. That’s why Andrews Air Conditioning Services offers Passive Infra-Red (PIR) motion sensors to our customers.

The system works by switching off the air conditioning if the room is left unoccupied for a preset period. Power to the air conditioning is automatically restored when movement is detected.  The system can also be linked to window sensors which prevent the air conditioning from operating if windows are left open. It is ideal for use in spaces with intermittent occupation like classrooms, hotel guest rooms or meeting rooms and offers significant energy savings and payback periods often less than one year.

Air Conditioning Energy Efficiency Inspections
The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive makes it a legal requirement that an accredited inspector undertakes a mandatory inspection, at least once every 5 years, on any air conditioning installation over 12kW total capacity. These inspections are designed to ensure the system is suitable for the intended purpose and is operating correctly and efficiently.

The responsibility for arranging Energy Efficiency Inspections lies with the owner or operator of the system.  Andrews Air Conditioning Services is able to advise on the need for an inspection and arrange for it to be conducted by a member of our national network of independently accredited inspection partners.

F-Gas Regulation Compliance
F-Gas is a term used to describe any of a range of fluorinated gases such as CFCs, HFCs and HCFCs which are, or have been in the past, widely used in refrigeration-related applications such as air conditioning. Some F-gases are ozone-depleting whilst others are known to contribute to the greenhouse effect and global warming. The F-Gas Regulations are EU legislation designed to strictly limit the release of F-gases into the atmosphere. By law, all air conditioning systems containing over 3kg of F-Gas refrigerant must be checked for damage and leaks at least once per year by an F-Gas certified contractor.

The Regulations place a number of general obligations on the owners of all equipment containing HFCs to :

  • Use all measures, that are technically feasible and do not entail disproportionate cost, to prevent leakage of refrigerants
  • Repair any detected leak as soon as possible
  • Recover refrigerant
  • Use appropriately trained and qualified contractors to service, maintain and dispose of equipment and refrigerant

In addition, for owners of systems containing more than 3kg of refrigerant (a system is defined as an individual refrigerant circuit such as a single split system, multi-split, or VRF installation), additional obligations apply :

  • To conduct regular testing by certified personnel to identify refrigerant leaks (usually annually, but 6 monthly or quarterly for larger systems with over 30kg of refrigerant)
  • Maintain records for each system detailing :
    • The quantity & type of refrigerant
    • Quantities of refrigerant added, recovered and disposed of
    • Identification of technician and company who performed any servicing or maintenance
    • The dates and results of leak checks

NOTES: Most smaller, single split systems contain less than 3kg of fGas but, even then, the general obligations still apply. Systems with R22 refrigerant (an HCFC) fall outside the scope of the fGas legislation, however under the ODS (Ozone Depleting Substances) Legislation, the tests are still required, although there is no legal requirement to record results.

Andrews Air Conditioning Services holds full F-Gas certification accredited by REFCOM and approved by DEFRA and your annual F-gas checks and certification can be incorporated into one of our Planned Maintenance Contracts.
